Project Description
Kuza One Network
FtMA in collaboration with Kuza. One has taken a long-term systems approach to bring in the core industry actors who are interested in serving smallholder farmers across Kenya to work as a collective, through a comprehensive digital solution that offers bundled products and services to farmers. We are taking an ecosystem approach by bringing together the core industry actors, making their products/services available via digital catalogues to our front-line Agri entrepreneurs network (FSCs), empowering them to support their cohort of smallholders. This model was selected by the UN-WFP global accelerator for its innovation and ability to bring in systems change at scale from amongst 890 teams from 93 countries.
The combined network of Kuza. One and FtMA have grown to over 100,000 smallholder farmers, 450 Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) across 15 counties in Kenya doing a collective business of Ksh. 1.7 billion (US$16 million). Strategic working relationships are in place with multiple private sector partners as well as county governments, the Worldbank, 2Scale/IFDC, USAID/CRS (S34D).
As FtMA we plan to roll-out the platform in the 13 counties FtMA operates in, the 5 value chains FtMA is engaged in (sorghum, soya, maize, potatoes and rice) with 180 FSCs, and we’re looking to engage 15-18 private sector partners to bring this pilot to life.
FarmEx
FarmEX is a farmer-centric, crop-agnostic digital platform connecting data-driven insights on farming, markets and finance to augment farmer yield and income. The heart of our offering is on-farm intelligence. This service provides comprehensive, completely customized support for each farm throughout the growth cycle, making use of our proprietary, crop-agnostic smart farming technology. It combines data on individual farms with agronomical research, sustainable best practices, data on local availability of seeds and sustainable inputs, and on micro-climatic patterns. The platform delivers concise, actionable intelligence on a recurring basis.
FarmEX is a result of over a decade of work by eKutir with smallholder value chains, a social enterprise and India’s first Certified Benefit Corporation.
And even more importantly for the FtMA Service Centres, FarmEx offers an eCommerce marketplace component for transacting farm Inputs that would enable the service centres track sales and delivery transactions to the farmers, as well as an aggregation point-of-sale and eCommerce marketplace component that tracks aggregation and market facing sales transactions.
