Project Description
Africa Improved Foods (AIF) is a public-private partnership involving Royal DSM N.V, the Government of Rwanda, CDC Group, FMO and IFC. AIF as a social enterprise provides a scalable and sustainable solution to malnutrition via local production of highly nutritious foods. AIF currently sources around 25%-35% of maize from neighbouring countries and is subject to fluctuating prices and unpredictable volumes by relying on commercial traders. AIF implements a value chain approach to develop local and regional maize and soy farming to a much higher standard. In 2021, AIF collaboration with the Farm to Market Alliance was initiated with the objective of improving its sourcing capabilities in Tanzania from smallholder farmers to a tune of 30,000-50,000Mts via the farmer service centre (FSC) network established. This initiative seeks to provide a route to market for maize and soy smallholder farmers with surplus potential.
